JOB DESCRIPTION

 

JOB TITLE:                 Teller I

 

REPORTS TO:            Branch Manager/Assistant Branch Manager/Head Teller

 

FLSA STATUS:           Non Exempt

 

 

SUMMARY:

 

This position is responsible for providing a variety of customer service functions, such as conducting checking and savings account transactions, processing loan transactions, cashing checks, selling money orders and travelers checks, processing mail, maintaining account records, etc.  This position is responsible for providing a high quality of customer service, cross-selling Bank services, and balancing each day's transactions and verifying cash totals.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:

 

  • Conducts Financial Transactions

  • Receives checks and cash for deposit in savings and checking accounts

  • Verifies deposit amount, examines checks for endorsements and negotiability, and processes transactions via teller terminal

  • Cashes checks and pays money from checking and savings accounts, upon verification of signatures and customer account balances

  • Inspects all checks, money orders, savings withdrawals, etc., to determine their negotiability

  • Processes payments on mortgage, installment and other loans, ensuring that payments equal the amount due and all late charges, if applicable, are collected

  • Sells and logs official checks, travelers' checks, money orders and gift checks

  • Balances teller drawer and performs other related duties at closin.

  • Cross Sells Bank Services

  • Explains and suggests various accounts and certificates, interest compounding, rates, etc.

  • Suggests the use of other banking products and services

  • Assists Customers With Questions And Other Transactions

  • Uses computer system to answer customer inquiries about accounts

  • Provides additional customer services including helping customers complete forms,  providing change to customers, explaining bank charges, and closing accounts

  • Observes All Bank Security and Safety Procedures

  • Contributes in balancing of Bank at closing and assists other tellers, as required

  • Maintains logs and records as directed by management

  • Prepares reports and reviews other documents as directed by Management

  • Fills out required reports on cash transactions of $10,000 or more and reports other suspicious transactions to management

  • Performs other duties as assigned and directed by management

 

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • High School graduate or equivalent preferred

  • Must be able to perform mathematical calculations required in order to process customer transactions and have the ability to type

  • The physical demand described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
  • Effective communication skills needed in order to properly represent the Bank while conducting customer transactions

  • May be required to stand for long periods of time while providing customer service
  • May be required to lift up to 25 lbs in the form of coin in order to provide customer service
  • May be required lift and transport teller drawer, up to 20 lbs, from vault to teller station and back
  • The employee is in an office type setting in which he or she is free to move about at will.
  • The employee in the course of performing this position spends time writing, typing, speaking, listening, sitting, walking, standing, squatting, kneeling and reaching.
  • The employee for this position may operate any or all of the following: teller terminal, telephone, smart phone, copy and fax machines, adding machine (calculator), scanning equipment, computer terminal, laptop computer, personal computer, tablet, printers, or other equipment as directed.

MENTAL DEMANDS:

 

  • Must remain calm and professional when dealing with customers, co-workers and management. Receives and follows detailed instructions and procedures
